Camelot denied Triple Crown by outsider Encke

Camelot just had too much ground to make up in the stretch and ran into some heavy traffic to finish second behind Encke in this year's St Leger Stakes at Doncaster. Michelangelo was third - all 3 were great grandsons of Northern Dancer.

  1. It was heartbreaking to watch Camelot get beaten, but that is horseracing. It appears that he clipped heels with another horse which would explain why he never travelled with his usual fluency. Kudos to them for trying and let's hope we see him again. Encke is a nicely bred colt and this was his day.
